Shouldering was made by a group of six art and design student teachers at Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD). The students worked with the film maker Michael Fortune and college tutors Kieran Meagher and Maria Finucane.
The students and tutors are graduate specialists in various areas of art, craft or design. All employ digital technologies in connection with their artistic and educational work. In effect, they are artist-teachers.
Yet, involvement in curriculum inquiry, such as that undertaken as part of the Ubuntu Network, demonstrates a commitment to research-based practice and on this account the description artist-teacher-researcher is more accurate. In the present context this appellation is important because there is something fitting about bringing three perspectives to something as complex, and controversial, as development. The student teachers went on to create fims with their own students during their final school placement.
