Development Education Role Play & History

Source: Dr. Tamzin Batteson (University of Limerick)

This resource is based on a workshop that was carried out with post-primary History teachers. It outlines a strategy integrating Problem Based Learning (PBL) and 'Reacting to the Past' Role Play as a pedagogical approach for tackling development issues in the context of Leaving Certificate History (European withdrawal from the Empire and the aftermath). Specifically it explores the secession of Katanga and related development issues such as the consequences of de-colonisation in terms of trade, aid, and famine.
