Homophobia in Irish Sport

This article provides a brief overview of homophobia in Irish sport. International rugby stars speak out against homophobia and discrimination following the release of an international report on homophobia in sport.

In relation to the teaching of physical education, this article can initiate conversations on homophobia in sport, the effects of homophobia on participation in school and community sport and physical activity, and differences in acceptance amongst peers and in the media between male and female athletes who are openly gay in professional sport.
