Challenges

The main challenges encountered in this project included:

  • Choosing rich texts that engage students and offer interpretative locations and opportunities
  • Becoming a teacher that is prepared to listen to students and resist taking up too much talk time
  • Finding ways of helping students to talk that is not just question-and-answer work
  • Managing classroom talk that seems diffuse and going in several directions at once
